The Co-op’s corporate website states that the Co-operative Society is different from other UK businesses as it is ‘owned by millions of customers’. The website also notes that as the company is not a public limited company (which would make it answerable both to shareholders and to financial institutions), it can fight for the benefit of its members and consumers.
