Cabernet Franc was extremely successful and even more important than usual on the right bank this year, not only bringing its characteristic bright freshness to balance the plush sweetness of Merlot but also in some cases moderating the overall alcohol level of the wines. Chx Ausone, Cheval Blanc, Ripeau and Peter Sisseck's Rocheyron are particularly good examples where Cabernet Franc shines in 2018, and the Thienponts' L'If has clearly benefited from the higher proportion of Cabernet Franc in this vintage.
