Monopole. Heady and sweet – liqueur wine more like a tincture than a wine! Very sweet and thick. Flattering. But so thick you must be aware of the style. (JR)

A touch of gold in the colour. Quite intense with a smoky orange-peel note. Pith, smoke and oak dust overlay a richness and glossy rounded weight, yet there is lift on the finish. Perhaps just a tiny touch more freshness would be good? (TC)

DOMAINE ARMELLE ET BERNARD RION Trying hard. They have one or two great holdings, especially Vosne Chaumes right up by Tâche. Daughter Alice (ex Tasmania) is gradually refining the wines, I think. They taste as though yields should come down.
Simple but a bit hard. (JR)

Very rich and exciting, but then their plot is just across a tiny road from La Tâche! Very good ingredients – lovely sap and body and flattering fruit, though one feels it could be just a little more ambitious. Great for early drinking. (JR)

Their only wine still in cask in late Oct 2010 and it will be bottled Dec. Light cherry red. Easy and fruity but with good structure underneath. Very frank and with no faults. All the ingredients are there, they just need slightly more ambition, or lower yields? Very frank and open. (JR)

Pale crimson. Intense and almost shocking cherry-liqueur nose. Quite rich and rounded but with a zesty cherry finish. Good depth of fruit, fine tannins, persistent, a little chewy but plenty of cherry fruit. Not very classic burgundy Pinot Noir flavours.(JH)

Again that shockingly intense cherry fruit on the nose. Almost too concentrated, as if in some way denatured, hence the minus.(Certainly not for lovers of delicate styles.) That same concentration carries through on the palate. Dry, fine and savoury on the finish. Impressive fruit almost covers the tannins though they are tight and fine. (JH)
