Sir Winston Churchill first met Odette Pol-Roger at a lunch in Paris in 1945 not long after the liberation of that city when the British ambassador to France apparently served the 1928 vintage, but the cuvée named after him was not born until 1975, when it was launched in magnums only, at Blenheim Palace.
