Four 1961s – one wonderful

It’s not every evening I am served four 1961s for dinner but such was the case last Saturday night. Our host, as you may gather, has been collecting wine for a very long time. All of these bottles had lain in his cellar for years.
I thought you might be interested to know that the best of these four was none of the three château bottled 1961 clarets but the Krug 1961, wonderfully nostalgic with its delicately garlanded white label reminiscent of the old Private Cuvée multi-vintage blend rather than the current, flashier label for Grande Cuvée.
