Haute couture for wine bottles
A designer friend of mine in San Francisco is selling dresses for wine bottles, particularly beautifully made cheongsam, those Chinese silk sheathes, specially sized so that they slip over a wine bottle. Crazy? Yes it does sound it, doesn't it – especially at $36 a pop – but the idea is that they provide super-elegant disguises for those who want to serve bottles blind.
You can get a wide range of colours and designs from www.christinefoleysf.com (search for 'wine').
I am told by those who live in Hong Kong, however, that you can pick up similar wine dresses for a song there. But if you want really high-quality fabric and stitching as a silly present for that wine lover who has everything, check out that website.
