Oregon's 'drc' – Deep Roots Coalition

In the mid 1970s, John Paul Cameron (now of Cameron Winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley) was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California at Berkeley. While working in Melvin Calvin’s lab, he helped to conduct a study of photosynthate transport in Chlorella algae. This study proved that the only photosynthate available in leaves that was readily transported to the rest of the plant was sucrose. In other words, the more leaves on a plant, the more sugar it could pump out.
