Getting a grip on Slovakia’s grape varieties and geography to access its exciting wines.
There was a buzz of curiosity in the room, lots of noise, when Wines of Slovakia took over 67 Pall Mall in London one winter morning. There were more than 60 wines, a dozen enthusiastic winegrowers and a professional supply of glasses and spittoons. What was missing? A map, a critical tool for any tasting, especially one where most of the wines and regions are unfamiliar (see below for a key to the Slovak region names).
