Vast American/Australian wine conglomerate Constellation's bid for the entire Mondavi Corporation makes a lot of sense, but I wonder whether one tangential consequence might be to help the two, once-warring, principal winemaking factions of the Rothschild family get closer together?
If the bid succeeds it will leave the hugely profitable Opus One operation owned jointly by the Rothschilds of Mouton and Constellation, already cited as partners with the Rothschilds of Lafite in a new California venture (see Lafite plan their own Napa Opus, with help) – which I hear has not exactly got off to a roaring start.
