1964 – a slice of Rioja history

The 1964 vintage is famous in the Rioja region so I leapt at the chance to taste a selection before a generic rioja tasting held in London at the end of last month. The seven wines were assembled and presented by new chair of the Institute of Masters of Wine, wine writer Sarah Jane Evans MW, and Carlos Echapresto who has the distinction of running Venta Moncalvillo, a Michelin-starred restaurant with outstanding wine list in a village of just 24 people outside Logroño.
