Award-winning English wines

Some time ago pp-er asked me about the effect of last year's hot summer on the quality of England's 2003s. I thought you might be interested to see the results of this year's national wine competition for English (and Welsh) wines.
Once again it was sparkling wines that did best, and once again the overall Gore Browne trophy went to Nyetimber of Sussex for their very fair copy of champagne. But you can see below that 2003 wines performed well, whereas in many a previous, less ripe year, such young English wines were not usually charming enough to walk off...
