Bordeaux 2002 prices tumble

Claire Villars, one of the lucky members of the greater Merlaut family (Gruaud Larose, etc) who all seem to be given a Bordeaux château as an inheritance, has announced opening prices for her three wines and they go as far back as 1996 opening prices.

Ch Haut Bages Libéral has been launched at 1996 – yes, 1996 – prices, Ch La Gurgue at 1998 levels and the recently revitalised Ch Ferrière (see my relatively enthusiastic tasting note) at just above Haut Bages Libéral prices – eg, £140 a case in bond chez Farr Vintners of London SW1.
