Immediately after the harvest the 2016 vintage in Montalcino was showered with praise and rave reviews, especially from producers themselves, who based their judgment on the first cask samples after the alcoholic fermentation. In unison they even claimed 2016 eclipsed the hallowed 2010 vintage. Similar things could be heard at the time in Barolo...
