Following yesterday's What's new, Montalcino? and tasting notes on Brunello 2007, here Walter wholeheartedly recommends the Brunello 2006 Riservas. See also Guide to Walter's Tuscan week for links to all the other articles.
While Montalcino keeps on soul searching about what it really wants to be – a wine expressing its unique terroir, or everything to everyone (although this may well be the wish of only a minority within the region) – the 2006 Riservas should give a clue as to what needs to happen: absolutely nothing. One just needs to accept two things: not every terroir is outstanding, and vintage changes...
