Burgundy 2023 – Co–Cy

Friday 24 January 2025
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

The fourth of our alphabetically organised tasting articles collating reviews of all the young burgundy 2023s tasted by Matthew in the Côte d’Or and by Jancis, Julia and Tam in London. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is pictured above, presenting his 2023s to Matthew last November. See also this guide to our coverage of this vintage in Burgundy.

These 149 tasting notes are grouped alphabetically by producer (sur)name and within those groups are ordered whites before reds, ascending from generic through village, premiers and grands crus.

Domaine Fabien Coche (Meursault)

Sweet and floral initially. Not quite the cut and thrust I'd hope for. A bit dilute. (JR)

Drink 2027 – 2034
£192 per case of 6 ib Berry Bros & Rudd

Good savour and excitement. Really delivers fruit and structure. And persistence. (JR)

Drink 2026 – 2035
£330 per case of 6 ib Berry Bros & Rudd

Also very promising with a little more acidity than the Chevalières, but definitely worth considering. (JR)

Drink 2028 – 2038
£360 per case of 6 ib Berry Bros & Rudd

Looks more evolved than many red 2023s. Lots of fruit and not too sweet. Red-cherry flavours. Firm and fresh – nice fruit/acid balance. GV (JR)

Drink 2028 – 2036
£168 per case of 6 ib Berry Bros & Rudd

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay (Chassagne-Montrachet)

Neat and fresh. Maybe slightly simple but absolutely couldn’t be anything other than good white burgundy. (JR)

Drink 2026 – 2035
£246 per case of 6 ib Flint

Lively, dense and worth a premium over the village wine. Some sweetness but great tension! GV (JR)

Drink 2028 – 2040
£330 per case of 6 ib Flint

Another (of many 2023 white burgundies) that I get a light Camembert note on! I know Cailleret is famous but I think for the money I'd go for Morgeot in this case. (JR)

Drink 2029 – 2040
£252 per case of 3 ib Flint

Domaine Bruno Colin (Chassagne-Montrachet)

Musky, violets nose. Pleasant, but a bit loose and simple. Drink young. (TC)

Drink 2025 – 2027
£125 per case of 6 ib Goedhuis Waddesdon

Caramelised pears, cedary spices. Rich and opulent, but the acidity feels very low and the finish sprawls. I'd probably drink this earlier rather than later, and for its richness, not refreshment. (TC)

Drink 2025 – 2030
£740 per case of 6 ib Goedhuis Waddesdon

Domaine Joseph Colin (St-Aubin)
