Carnuntum picks up the pace

The news from the world of Austrian wines last October was the creation of a tenth DAC. Schilcherland is an appellation for rosé wines made in western Styria, in the deep south of Austria (shown in light green on this World Atlas of Wine map of the country's wine regions), from the Blauer Wildbacher grape variety.
If this niche wine has its own appellation, it seems high time that Carnuntum, to the east of Vienna, should have one too. The fact that it doesn’t highlights both the character of the region and the constrictions of the DAC system...
