I had an interesting challenge the other day: tasting the following 60 Barolos and Barbarescos in an attempt to find one or two that would be suitable for serving in British Airways first class cabin. As you know, tannins tend to be emphasized at 30,000 feet, so young Piemontese reds are perhaps not the most obvious choice to serve in the air, but BA’s wine man Peter Nixson was determined to widen the range available at the sharp end from obvious French and New World classics.
