Fourrier ex Faugères – a sad tale

The Faugères domaine of Jean-Marie Fourrier, the talented young Gevrey Chambertin winemaker, has been up for sale for six months, a casualty of the French banks' increasing toughness and perhaps the travails of the Languedoc region - awash with great-value red wine.
His Adagio des Terroirs 2001 J M Fourrier was one of the most interesting wines of the week in 2003 and, according to its UK importer A & B Vintners is coming along very nicely. But there will be no future vintages and the 2003 and 2004 crops had to be sold off in bulk because he couldn't afford to bottle them....
