It had been ages since I had been to a tasting organised by one of the UK’s supermarkets, who sell such a high proportion of the volume, if not value, of all the wine drunk in the UK. But on the day of the recent spring tasting organised by multiple retailer Marks and Spencer, our retail specialist Andrew Howard MW was helping to decide which wines received trophies in this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, so I stepped into the breach.
