Reviews of 18 recently released 2022 vintage ports as well as some outstanding older wines, both bottle-aged and wood-aged, and a few delicious rarities. Above, the 2022 harvest at Fonseca's Quinta do Panascal.
Vintage port, unlike other ports, is ‘declared’, usually with much fanfare in advance of the wine being released onto the market and usually on a date chosen by the port house rather than all on the same day. A declaration is generally made around 18 months after the harvest when the producer is sure they have a port that is worthy of the name of their house...
