You'll remember from this comparative tasting of German Spätburgunder and top Pinot Noirs around the world and this recent wine of the week, Nelles, Ruber Spätburgunder 2010 Ahr, that I am quite a fan of German Pinot Noir, or Spätburgunder. I am also a fan of Rudolf May's white Franken wines, especially his Silvaner. So it was not, in a way, a surprise to come across this range of toothsome Pinots from him.
The packaging changed considerably in 2005, going from tall, straight-sided bottles with long necks, corks and rather 'quaint' labels to the smart, screwcapped burgundy bottles shown...
