Santorini – buy while you can

Santorini's 2023 harvest was tiny, even by the standards of this beautiful Cycladic island, where vines are widely spaced and produce very low yields even in good years. This photo shows the western side of the town of Oia seen from the boat on the way back from the island of Thirasia.
Typical yields were just 30% of the annual average production, according to Nikolaos Varvarigos, chief oenologist at Santo Wines, the island’s one-and-only co-operative winery, which processes around 50% of the island’s grapes.
