US importer of fine German wines, David Schildknecht, a frequent contributor to purple pages, files this report on how German vintners are adapting to the latest rules and trends.
Having just returned from my annual two weeks tasting the new German vintage (on which I shall as always report at year's end in the pages of Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar), I offer some observations picked up in the course of my visits to nearly 70 vintners.
