Newcastle upon Tyne, in the far north east of England, is not known for the finer things in life. You can expect pease pudding (heavily boiled yellow split peas with a knuckle of bacon), stotties (a stodgy flat bread – in Geordie dialect, to stott means 'to bounce'), singin' hinnies (a scone made with lard and currants), saveloy dip (I'm not sure I even want to explain this – Google it if you're desperate to know) and, most importantly, Newkie Brown (Newcastle Brown Ale aka bottle of dog or a pint of Broon).
