Richard crunches the numbers on wine in Asia.
After nearly two years living in Singapore, I am now used to being asked the same questions about Asia’s wine scene. Indeed, I am still asking them myself. Curiosity about this part of the world is understandable, perhaps because China is so large and populous yet mysterious to many westerners, and especially since Asia has been heralded as one of the fastest growing regions for both production and consumption of wine, as illustrated by this chart from Global Wine Markets, 1860–2016:
