A green future

This unprepossessing green sludge might just save the planet. It is algae being experimented with at Torres in Penedès, where matters ecological are to the fore, and algae are merely one of many worthy causes being investigated.

Those others deserve mention. One study is examining the effect of climate change by growing vines at different temperatures and with differing water supplies. In a greenhouse, two rows of vines in 50-litre pots are grown in normal temperature conditions. One row is given adequate irrigation, the other is given precisely half as much.
