I grew up within 15 miles of the Scottish border, which meant that our family hardly bothered to explore Scotland, feeling it was always on our doorstep so there was no urgent need. I am guilty of the same sort of feelings about Champagne. Nowadays it is the closest fine-wine region to my home in London (with the exception of course of its up and coming rival England), which means that I get there shamefully infrequently. I know Rutherford better than Reims, Échezeaux...
