The Alto Adige, or Südtirol, is a honeytrap for sun-loving walkers, foodies and wine lovers, and heaven for pomologists. Apple trees in particular dominate the valleys, vines preferring the slopes and higher elevations. A short trip to this alpine region towards the end of last year courtesy of the Alto Adige Consorzio, described more fully in Alto Adige's bilingual wines, was a great way to sample some of the region's pleasures but the focus was on wine.
