Bargain 2005 bordeaux – no oxymoron

Continuing our Bordeaux Week, here are some tasting notes on a dozen inexpensive red bordeaux from the 2005 vintage that is increasingly confirmed as of quite exceptional quality, not just at the top of the tree but right down the ranks. Note how well the first wine, a humble Vin de Pays from South West France, showed alongside these more famous names. We enjoyed a bottle of Ch Masburel 1999 Côtes de Bergerac last night and it was absolutely sumptuous (and made by Brits – one more to add to my list of recommended British-made French wines).
