Does Australia make great wine?

Australia's top wines do not make the cut when compared to the world's best, according to industry leader Brian Croser.
Croser, (not quite) only begetter of Petaluma winery in the Adelaide Hills now owned by the brewing conglomerate Lion Nathan and increasingly close associate of the Bizot family of Bollinger champagne (expect a wedding towards the end of the year), has never shied away from strong opinions. He is, quite justifiably in my view, leading a campaign against overripeness in wines – the produce, as he puts it, of 'dead fruit'. He and Robert Parker have discussed this interesting subject...
