Good news! The number of British wine importers taking California seriously has increased enormously recently. No longer the preserve of the Wine Treasury and Vineyard Cellars, the most important wine producing state in the US is attracting the attention of some of London's most trend-conscious wine merchants. Fields Morris & Verdin (the agency arm of Berry Bros) were some of the first but now there are others – and they are interested in new-wave California, the lighter, fresher, more Jon Bonné-type of wines, rather than the old fruit bombs.
