Pichon Lalande back to 1991

Christie's forthcoming London auction on 10 Dec occasioned this tasting of eight vintages of second-growth Pauillac property Château Pichon-Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, generally known as Pichon Lalande or Pichon Lalande (Comtesse), pictured here by Mick Rock of Cephas. The sale includes small volumes (mostly large-format bottles) of a wide range of vintages back to 1953. Our tasting, led by Thomas Dô Chi Nam, winemaker there since 1992, didn't stretch quite so far back but did include the now rather rare 1991 – rare mainly because of the frost-reduced crop. My favourite wine of the evening was the 1996.
