Coriander – stink bugs and soap

My second-eldest sister and my aunt loathe the leafy herb called coriander (or cilantro). The sister says it tastes like stink bugs and the aunt, rather more rudely, says it smells like sweaty old lady. My eldest sister and I adore the herb. I buy it by the 100-g bunch and my husband and I will eat the entire chopped bowl of it in one meal, stalks and all. The eldest sister spent eight years in Singapore and she reckons that English coriander is but a wan ghost of its pungent Singaporean counterpart. She’s always on the hunt for coriander...
