We continue our African Week with this report on what Julia tasted recently in South Africa.
The most striking aspect of what I tasted in the two days after I finished judging in the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in Paarl, South Africa, recently was the high quality of the wines, with evident potential to improve further as the vines age and site/variety matching becomes more sophisticated, particularly when so many of the producers and vineyards are still so young in the tooth. Almost as striking was the beauty of the vineyards, like this one belonging to Waterkloof (see below)...
