In Spain’s Penedès region, many diverse winemaking philosophies coexist. We find very large wineries, but also a significant number of small producers. The younger generations sometimes feel that their ancestors undervalued the territory because historically they turned their backs on the vineyard to focus more on the winemaking – especially in the 1990s, when varietal wines (especially made from foreign varieties) set the tone.
