Rosso di Montalcino 2012, and a handful of 2011s

At the same time as my second tranche of tastings of Brunello di Montalcino 2009, I also had a look at Rosso di Montalcinos, mainly 2012 but some 2011s and 2010s, too.
I truly like Rosso di Montalcino as a category. Sure, it is not cheap, although it retails at roughly half the price of Brunello. But when chosen carefully, these wines deliver real value for money. Be very picky, though. In off years, of which there were quite a few recently, Rosso can offer more pleasure than plain Brunello, because it has the advantage that it can be released...
