The chairman and trustees of the 2013 André Simon Awards have just released their shortlist for this year's best food and drink books.

It's very encouraging to see another good crop of wine books this year, after last year's excellent harvest. We may occasionally have referred on this site to the World Atlas of Wine but we have not ignored every other author or book in the list of drink books. See Alder Yarrow's recent review of The New California Wine and Monty's organic and biodynamic stock take.

As usual, Paul O'Doherty will be providing Purple Pagers with his completely independent (of us) reviews of this year's crop of drinks books over Christmas and New Year.
