As with the recent Tesco tasting, the range of wines at its great UK supermarket rival Sainsbury's is mostly own-label these days. Of the 104 wines on show, 61% were badged under the supermarket's brand. I tasted most of the rest of them, which felt a bit like panning for gold: there were precious few nuggets. The star of the show was the 2012 vintage of Château Barreyres from the Haut-Médoc which is an absolutely classic bordeaux with a generous flavour range offering excellent value at £12.
