Bordeaux '96s today – tasting notes

I know well how important it is to keep tasting and reviewing older wines. Along with vintage port, fine red bordeaux is the archetypal wine that demands long ageing, or at least deserves long ageing if the prices paid for it are to be anything like worthwhile (see Which Bordeaux vintage is best value?)
Because of this, when the Grands Crus Classés de Bordeaux suggested I visit the Médoc earlier this year to do some tasting, I asked if I could compare two mature vintages, 1995 and 1996. You can read my report on the 1995s in 50 Bordeaux...
