The Bordelais are very nervous about this year's harvest. It has been particularly – ahem, challenging – so far, the long winter ameliorated by some warm, fine weather in July and August, but still some growers wonder whether they will manage to ripen their Cabernets at all this year.
The official generic body the CIVB predicted last week that the 2013 crop was likely to be the smallest since 1991. Coulure and hail were the chief shrinkers of volume with white-wine country in the Entre-Deux-Mers particularly badly hit.
