One of the saddest recent losses to the wine world was that of Haridimos Hatzidakis, all-too-young founder of the outstanding eponymous winery on the island of Santorini. As his UK importer Mary Pateras of Eclectic Wines put it last year, ‘he was just like family, infuriating sometimes, but always generous-hearted, and very, very talented'.
Haridimos leaves behind the legacy of some great wine and a brand new winery. In 2015 Apostolos Thymiopoulos, 39-year-old producer of Thymiopoulos reds and rather special rosés in Náoussa, went to Santorini to help Hatzidakis with the harvest. He loved the island so much, he started...
