Burgundy 2015 – Cl-Cy

Tangy with citrus and cedar on the nose. A bit lean and flat on the palate. (JH)

Like the straight Marsannay, zesty on the nose. And here much richer on the palate, with rounded citrus fruit and much better balance of fruit and freshness. Almost but not quite tart on the finish. (JH)

Oaky/mealy nose. Sulphur showing a little for the moment. Tight, dry, a little short on fruit in the middle but that could be the sulphur getting in the way, hence the plus. (JH)

Mid crimson. Vanilla-laced red fruit. Dry, grippy and a bit austere on the palate, finishing rather dry. (JH)

Light to mid crimson. Sweet cherry aroma. Light and juicy. Lightly structured to match. A bit lean on the finish. (JH)

Light to mid cherry. Fragrant and red-fruited on the nose. Juicy, fresh, supple texture. Light and easy but all in balance. (JH)

Lifted, peppery and inviting, very expressive already. Just a slight stemmy whole-bunch herbal note. Delicately dry and fresh on the palate. Juicy and lingering. (JH)

This seems leaner than the Petite-Chapelle. Still fragrant and juicy but less fruit in the middle so it finishes rather dry. (JH)

Lightish cherry. Sweetly fragrant – on the nose and palate. But a little lean on the palate, needs a touch more flesh to balance it out, maybe it will come. (JH)

Mid crimson. Gentle, dry and harmonious. Doesn’t really strike me as grand cru material, except in a lighter vein. Unexpectedly persistent. (JH)

More smoky and savoury on the nose than the Clos de Bèze. A little herbal and stemmy. Firm and chewy but with the fruit to carry the firm structure. Needs a lot of time. So expensive. (JH)

Savoury nose with lean citrus and masses of chew. Not the most sophisticated white burgundy. A bit big and unsubtle. Quite chewy and alcoholic on the end. (JR)

Calcareous site. Pale straw colour. Tense and exciting on the nose. Much more interesting than this producer’s village Santenay 2015. Sleek and racy with crunchy fruit. Much better value! Straightforward and already open. (JR)

Quite a rich nose. And then tension on the palate. Well done! Very lively and pure. Lots to chew on but not in an unpleasant way. QGV (JR)

Just a little dull and sweet compared with the Agnès Paquet just tasted. Ticks boxes but lacks a bit of freshness. (JR)

From 45-year-old vines.
Bright cherry red. Intense, ripe nose is totally charming even if the finish is a tad mean. Exuberant! (JR)

Cask sample. Opulent yet fresh. Masses of joyful fruit with some real sweetness. Good grainy texture and refreshment. Not a heavyweight but good balance. (JR)

Cask sample. A dusty overlay on some really ripe fruit. Lots of structure and crunch. This should be worth waiting for. Really quite piercing with some (quite attractive) inky quality. Long. (JR)

Cask sample. Big and broad on the nose. Lots going on here. But for the moment it’s distinctly reserved. This producer presents a good Santenay terroir lesson. (JR)

Sweet and intense on the nose. But not that focused on the palate. A bit edgy vegy on the slightly messy finish. Aggressively chewy. (JR)

A bit hesitant and tough. Underpowered. I’m afraid I really wouldn’t pay this price for this timid wine. Very hard work. (JR)

Nuts and apples – plus a certain mushroom character that might be slightly rot-affected. Light palate, simple flavour profile. Not entirely convincing. (RH)

Deep colour, very rich nose with a plum and herb character. This reminds me, weirdly enough, of freshly fermented Shiraz from McLaren Vale! It really is a warm style. There’s a lot of rich charm here – but I’m not sure you would pick it as Chambolle. (RH)

Black cherry, violet, crunchy and expressive with a proper floral scent on the finish. Very tender tannins indeed – very much an early-drinker, though there is gorgeous fruit intensity through to the finish. (RH)

Sweet oak scent on the nose, rich cherry fruit, soft mouthfeel that nonetheless leaves a fine tannic grip on the finish. Much more refined than their non-premier cru Chambolle. It’s a masculine style that should develop reasonably well. (RH)

Rich plummy fruit – ripe and rich, showing the ripeness of the vintage. Expertly balanced palate with the acid just refreshing the full body and grainy tannin structure. Delicious sour cherry element on the finish. (RH)

Candied cherry fruit. Strong medicinal character, and some volatile acidity makes this quite edgy on the nose – not unpleasant, but without the purity of fruit you might expect. It’s not too expensive relative to many grands crus, mind (based on the trade price). (RH)

Cask sample. Notably dark crimson. Really very intense and dramatic on the nose. Then exciting tension on the palate. Certainly makes a statement! Almost more Pommard intensity than Volnay elegance but lots of delivery. (JR)

Lots of definition on the nose with some veginess. Very firm tannins – almost bitter on the end. Hardly a gentle touch! Needs lots of time. For those who value structure over fruit. (JR)

Cask sample.Very seductive yeast-extract nose. Bright fruit with fine acidity and sufficient fruit for the tannin. Excitingly ambitious with nuance and potential. The fruit almost hides the tannin. (JR)

Cask sample. Real vigour and upright tannins but lots of subtle ripe fruit too. Real spread of red fruits on the front palate with extremely appetising freshness on the finish. Fine polish and zest. Clean, appetising, just the right side of severe on the finish. (JR)
