'Greek wines will never be mainstream', said Konstantinos Lazarakis MW to the room full of wine writers. And as if to prove it, set before us was a collection of Greek wine seemingly designed to show just how esoteric it can be.
This is something to be celebrated. Lazarakis observed that wines like these will always have relevance to the wine professional – and while that might be of little solace to struggling Greek producers, the uniqueness of these wines holds inherent appeal for the oenophile.
They may not rank so highly as the acknowledged best wines of the world...
