A dozen top Barolos, mainly 2001s

Julia Harding MW reports on a Masterclass on Barolo held as part of Decanter’s recent Italian wine event in London.
The 12 wines were chosen and presented by Michael Garner, co-author of Barolo: Tar and Roses, published in the early 1990s, with the aim of showing the characteristic styles of different vineyards around the five communes of Barolo heartland: La Morra, Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Montforte d’Alba and Serralunga d’Alba. The majority of the wines were from the excellent 2001 vintage, with three slightly older wines for comparison at the end.
