Beaujolais 2016 – reduced but in recovery

Last week's reports from Beaujolais were the most encouraging to date this year, although growers must still be hoping for some government support after a tough spring and early summer.
At the end of May, local newspapers reported severe hail damage during the night of 27/28 May, particularly in the northern part of Beaujolais, home to the ten named crus (for links to more information on these, see the Appellations section of the Oxford Companion's Beaujolais entry).
