Blending – do this at home?

Don't do this at home but the other day I blended a Napa Cab with a Barolo, and enjoyed the results.
The previous night I had opened a bottle of Elvio Cogno, Vigna Elena Riserva 2006 Barolo for a bordeaux-loving friend who is planning a visit to Barolo this July. It was fine but still pretty tannic – even after four hours in a decanter – and it will doubtless give much more pleasure in six to 12 years.
