Conseillante – 40 vintages back to 1945

You can read here about the background to this ground-breaking vertical tasting of the Nicolas family's Pomerol property Ch La Conseillante, the one with the violet-coloured foil. Organisers Farr Vintners billed it modestly as The World's Greatest Conseillante Tasting. They had recently acquired bottles of the 1953, 1949 and 1945 that had lain in the cellar of John Barratt of Bath for years. Most of the vintages back to 1990 and a few earlier ones came from the cellars of the château.
The property is practically next door to Ch L'Evangile, the Pomerol property owned by the Rothschilds of Lafite...
