Legendary dry Rieslings

An extraordinary tasting of mature dry Riesling wines took place at the end of August, coinciding with the VDP presentation of Grosses Gewächs at Wiesbaden (see this guide to my reports on it), at the renowned Nahe estate Emrich-Schönleber in Monzingen. The event was organised by wine collector Rainer Kaltenecker, who, besides making a sizeable contribution of old bottles himself, had also managed to persuade Messieurs Hans Onstein and Karl-Heinz Frackenpohl, two retired businessmen with deep pockets and impressive cellars, to make some generous donations to the cause.
