Roussillon's dramatic, rugged land, an amphitheatre to the sea and shaped by the tramontane wind as it blasts through the Pyrenees and the Massif Central, is more Catalan than French. The wines of Roussillon are also markedly different from any of those in the Languedoc – so different that I often wonder why the two regions are thrown together. We don't, after all, bundle Provence in with Languedoc, even though Provence also dabbles its toes in the Mediterranean. ...
