We all know the 1997 red bordeaux were so overpriced that we didn't want to buy them. But this is a vintage that can provide some really quite pleasant drinking now, provided it wasn't you who bought the wines at opening prices. I tasted these first growths (plus one wannabe) alongside each other the other day and thought my notes might be of interest.
Ch Léoville Las Cases 1997 St Julien 16.5 Drink now – 2008
Healthy crimson. Intense, medicinal introvert nose. Elegant for Léoville Las Cases! Approachable. Tannins lurk, but don't dominate. Bit brutal, though.
